Dear Friends:

"See your doctor before beginning a new exercise program."

How may times have you read that warning and ignored it? "How ridiculous," you think. "Why should I see my doctor just because I want to start jogging three times a week?"

The answers are many. You may not know how to exercise correctly, or realize the importance of warming up and cooling down. You may be eager to push your body beyond its physical capacity. You may even believe in the myth of "No Pain, No Gain."

You need professional advice from your chiropractor, who can assess your fitness level and suggest appropriate exercises for you.

Begin gradually, especially if you're recovering from a sedentary winter. In today's fast-paced society, it seems like everyone is looking for immediate results. But in the area of physical fitness, low and steady truly does win the race. If you start an exercise program that is too much for you, chances are you won't stick with it. Or worse, you'll injure yourself.

If you do experience aching and soreness, pay attention! Pain isn't a sign of weakness, and it's not something to ignore - it's a warning signal that you're doing something your body simply isn't prepared for.

With year of extensive training in human anatomy, your chiropractor knows how to stretch, warm up, work out and cool down to get the most benefit from exercise with the least risk of injury. A post-exercise adjustment can alleviate pain and soreness before it starts. And of course, a pre-exercise adjustment can ensure that your body stays well balance and healthy, so you can continue to perform at peak level.

Smart Kids Play Safley!

Rules for good health and smart exercise don't change just because you're younger. Children also need to take care to stretch and warm-up before going full blast.

Before they rush out the door to play with their new bike, skateboard or rollerblades, make sure that your children are wearing appropriate protective gear. Helmets and knee pads not only look cool, but they can also be all that stands between your child and serious injury.

As your sports start again, be certain your kids are equipped with proper soccer shinguards, baseball batting helmets, etc.

And remember: regular chiropractic adjustments can give children the same benefits as adults: better balance, coordination and stamina.
